About Midwest Powered Paragliding

Head shot

Owner Dave Halcomb

I purchased my first Powered Paraglider in 1999 and have been flying just about everything available in the sport since it’s infancy. In 2003 I took on my first student and couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed teaching the sport. Having the opportunity to impact people’s lives in such a profound way is personally very rewarding. The look on my student’s face when he landed after his first flight was the picture worth a thousand words. Logging over 1000 flights to date without any incidents, I can teach you in all honesty how to fly a Powered Paraglider safely. I am a fully certified USPPA Instructor, and recently hit the 100th student mark.

My National Training Center is located in central Indiana, and we train at Franklin Flying Field – Located just 20 minutes south of Indianapolis. This is truly a complete and fully-functioning training facility. Unlike many instructors in the sport, Midwest PPG does not work out of the trunk of a car. Our spacious hanger at Franklin Flying Field works quite well in concert with this minimally active airport. We may hold up training for a few minutes while the skydivers land but then it’s back to work. A pretty cool way to spend an afternoon!
